INCLUSION COUNSELLOR The Inclusion Counsellor will be responsible to the Camp Director

 

The main duties of this position include:

·         Supervising a camper with special abilities on a daily basis

·         Ensuring the inclusion of this camper in all activities in accordance with Rainbow’s Mission Statement and Policies

·         Working in cooperation with all other staff

·         Mentoring volunteers and students

·         Implementation of the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development

·         Full participation in all activities of camp

Job Requirements:

Recruiting college/university student with demonstrated experience working with children and youth with special needs, preferably in a recreational setting. Aquatic qualifications an asset.

·         Current first aid certificate, including CPR ‘C’, from a recognized agency

·         Current Criminal Reference Check (for those 18 years of age and older)

·         HIGH FIVE®: The Principles of Healthy Child Development certification (provided in-house)

 

Salary Range:            $431-$451/camp week based on years of service and experience

 

2010 Employment Period: June 24 to August 27, 2010

 

Hour of Work:            Must be available Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

                                    (to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays)

Provide a positive camp experience for an individual child with special needs by:

·         Working in cooperation with the other Inclusion Counsellors and Private Contract Workers to ensure a positive camp experience

·         Facilitating interaction with other campers

·         Working with the Camp Director and the Program Coordinator to integrate the camper into the main activities of a typical camp day

·         Providing one on one activities, when appropriate

·         Being responsible for the personal care and supervision of his/her camper from arrival to departure

·         Participating in the swimming program on a daily basis

·         Being available for assignment in another area of camp should his/her camper be absent from camp

·         Maintaining all information received regarding his/her camper in strict confidence

Maintain contact with families by:

·         Making contact with the family of the camper assigned to through telephone call, prior to the camp session

·         Having a verbal conversation with the parent/guardian, and in some cases do a written report on the child’s activities, on a daily basis

·         Handling concerns (in conjunction with the Camp Director) raised by families regarding their child and his/her camp experience


Participate in the coordination and supervision of the overall camp program by:

·         Attending and participating in staff training and staff meetings

·         Assisting in the general maintenance of the camp (daily clean up)

·         Being punctual for camp and programs, staff meetings, and all other activities as scheduled

·         Helping other staff members whenever necessary

Complete all administrative tasks by:

·            Providing, at the conclusion of camp, a completed evaluation on the operations of Rainbow Day Camp from the perspective of the Inclusion Counsellor

·            Following all policies and procedures of Rainbow Programmes for Children as per the Staff Manual

·            Participating in promotional events as requested
