SENIOR COUNSELLOR
The Senior Counsellor will be responsible
to the Camp Director

 

The main duties of this position include:

·         Interacting in a meaningful way with a group of campers, ensuring the supervision of these campers at all times

·          Ensuring the inclusion of all campers in all activities in accordance with Rainbow’s Mission Statement and Policies

·         Implementation of activities and programs designed by the Program Coordinator

·         Supervision of Junior Counsellors, Inclusion Counsellors, Private Contract Workers and volunteers as assigned

·         Working in cooperation with all other staff

·         Implementation of the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development

·         Full participation in all activities of camp

Job Requirements:

Recruiting a senior high school or college/university student with demonstrated experience working with children, preferably in a recreational setting. Aquatic qualifications an asset.

·         Current first aid certificate, including CPR ‘C’, from a recognized agency

·         Current Criminal Reference Check (for those 18 years of age and older)

·         HIGH FIVE®: The Principles of Healthy Child Development certification (provided in-house)

Deliver a quality day camp program by:

·         At all times, interacting in a meaningful way with an assigned group of campers

·         Implementing on a daily basis the activities and programs developed by the Program Coordinator, including interest groups, Rainbow’s ‘Swim Fit’, special event/theme days, opening and closing circles, open house activities, and before and after camp care activities

·         At all times taking responsibility for the supervision of campers including the movement from one activity to another

·         Assigning appropriate duties to the Junior Counsellors and volunteers assigned to your group of campers

·         Ensuring all campers are included in all activities and are enjoying a meaningful experience

·         Establishing and maintaining a respectful relationship with each camper and his/her family

·         Having the knowledge and ability to implement serious occurrence procedures (first aid,

discipline protocol, etc.)

·            Being respectful to all University of Guelph personnel and reporting any incidents of damage or unsafe environments immediately to the Camp Director

·            Maintaining all information received regarding individuals in strict confidence

 

Participate in the coordination and supervision of the overall camp program by:

·            Attending and participating in staff training and staff meetings as scheduled

·            Assisting in the general maintenance of the camp (including daily set-up and clean up)

·            Being punctual for camp and programs and other activities as scheduled

·            Helping other staff members whenever necessary

·            Mentoring volunteers and LIT/Teen campers

·             

Salary Range:            $431-$451/camp week based on years of service and experience

 

2010 Employment Period: June 24 to August 27, 2010

 

Hour of Work:            Must be available Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

                                    (to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays)

 

 

Complete all administrative tasks by:

·            Completing camper attendance records, using sign-in and sign-out procedures and notifying Camp Director of absent camper

·            Provide at the conclusion of camp, a completed evaluation on operations of Rainbow Day Camp from the perspective of the Senior Counsellor

·            Following all policies and procedures of Rainbow Programmes for Children as per the Staff Manual

·            Participating in promotional events as requested
